Mission

Women's Project aims to empower women to express themselves through creative means, and is committed to establishing a framework within which members may take risks in their art and initiate change in their community.

Women's Project meets every Friday at 12pm. Meetings are held in Centennial West room 202, except on the last Friday of the month when the meeting takes place at Latte Time (706 S. Main, Normal).

Women's Project Chair: Annaliisa Ahlman

Women's Project Vice Chair: Katie Klemp

Faculty Advisor: Janet Wilson

Current Productions

A short play written and directed by Katie Klemp, The Stall, was produced by the Women's Project early in September.  After audience feedback and rewrites, The Stall may be remounted later in the Women's Project 2007-2008 season.

LunaFest, a festival of short films, will be sponsored by Women's Project in November. Watch for more details coming soon!

Holly Hughes, internationally renowned performance and visual artist, will be on campus February 27-29.  In addition to classroom visits and workshops, Ms. Hughes will perform her piece Clit Notes on campus the evening of February 28, and will speak at the Women's and Gender Studies Symposium on Friday February 29.  This event is co-sponsored by Women's Project, Women's and Gender Studies, the School of Theatre, and many others.

Women's Project is always looking for submissions of new or previously produced theatre, dance, music, visual or spoken word pieces.  Production support such as finding space and gathering financial resources is available.  If you are interested in producing, directing, performing, designing or would like to participate in any other part of the collaborative process, please join us at a meeting or contact us for further information.

History

The Women's Project began in 2001 by Janet Wilson in the School of Theatre at Illinois State University. In 2005, the Women's Project performed LifeChoices, a collaborative piece based on reproductive choices made by women of various backgrounds and experiences.
